Order NowAbout Ayudha Pooja
Ayudha Pooja (also called Astra Puja or Shastra Puja) is a part of the Navaratri festival, celebrated on the ninth day (Mahanavami) in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala. It is a day to honour and worship the tools, instruments, machines and vehicles that help us in our livelihood, invoking the blessings of Goddess Saraswati, Lakshmi and Durga.
Significance of the festival
Ayudha Pooja reflects gratitude towards the implements of our work — from books, computers and machinery to cars, bikes and trucks. By decorating and worshipping them with fresh flowers, turmeric, kumkum and sandal, devotees seek skill, prosperity and protection in their profession and daily life.
How the Ayudha Pooja is performed
Tools, vehicles and instruments are cleaned and decorated with flower garlands, banana leaves, mango leaves and kumkum. Fresh flowers and garlands are placed over them, a lamp is lit, and prayers are offered. Vehicles are adorned with garlands on the bonnet and dashboard, and loose flowers are used for the pooja.
Flowers used for Ayudha Pooja
Popular choices include marigold, jasmine (malli), rose, chrysanthemum (sevanthi) and banana-stem decorations, along with fresh garlands and loose flowers to decorate tools, vehicles and the pooja area. Bright, fragrant blooms symbolise auspiciousness and devotion.
